The construction of the European Union did begin after the end of World War II. Europe did be in ruins at the time and everything did have to be rebuilded. But above al, a solution did have to be finded so that Germany and France wud come to an agreement again and then arive at a lasting peace in Europe. It did be therefore necesary to imagine a system of relations between the countrys wich wud alow it ... The idea did come from the French Jean Monnet, a civil servant and a convinced European. He did propose a construction « in smal steps », based on a colaboration between the French and the Germans. His brilant idea did be very simple : Germany and France must jointly produce and market their coal and steel.
